Juhi Mehta, 42, Mumbai. She is a single mother to a 14 year old. A successful professional working as senior management in a digital company. The amazing thing about Juhi is not that she dons multiple hats but that she does each with equal amount of zeal, enthusiasm and success. Her effervescent nature is only complemented by her never say die spirit.
Living the busy life in Mumbai, shuttling between work, home and other priorities (single mom) fitness is something her never compromised on. Gym, swim, an occasional run was the norm till a friend introduced her to cycling. Not too keen with the idea at the beginning, ‘I might well give it a try’ she said. Although slowly when she made it on to the saddle, she knew it, it was totally different from the conventional fitness methods she tried and the sense of freedom it gave in the crowded city of Mumbai was immense. She was hitched!
If you ever ask Juhi this question, she would reply “I’m just a normal rider yaar. And I want to get better at cycling”. But her buddy riders have a lot to say when asked the same question about Juhi. “During one of our Sunday rides up Bhor ghat, we had suggested Juhi to take rest and ride another day as she was suffering from cold and throat infection. It even felt like she could barely speak.” recalls Anurag. “She said she would try and if things get too bad, she would stop and turn back. Eventually, she rode with us all the way up and back as though she was perfectly well. She amazed me that day!” Her 1st BRM happened on a busted knee!
Cycling has helped her to understand that there are many limits. But none that can’t be broken if you have the will and determination to always do better. The blue beads on her bike is as much to ward off the evil eye as is touch of aesthetics she adds to the rides.
